Lillian Hill, Project Director of Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture, says “for Native Americans, corn connects us to the earth”. Curt Ellis, Parent Earth Expert says, “we grow an industrial grain crop, yellow dent number two, that we eat as processed starch.” We give our tax dollars to produce this heavily processed food. Food companies market soda, which contains high fructose corn syrup that contributes to the high levels of obesity and diabetes in our communities. When you see ‘high fructuse corn syrup’ you know that the food you’re holding in your hand has been highly processed (doused with chemicals and fertilizers).
